Dynamic Facilitation Workshop Held at RIFS for Transdisciplinary Researchers

Rosa Zubizarreta-Ada organized and facilitated a two-day Dynamic Facilitation workshop at the Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS) in Potsdam, Germany. Held at the request of scientists working at the institute, the training brought together researchers engaged in mini-publics and multi-stakeholder processes to explore new approaches to group facilitation, with a focus on fostering deeper collaboration and creative problem-solving.

The goal of the workshop was to introduce participants to Dynamic Facilitation—a method designed to help groups navigate complex or polarized issues by encouraging authentic expression, deep listening, and emergent thinking. As RIFS researchers regularly work on transdisciplinary projects involving diverse actors, the workshop provided space to reflect on how new facilitation strategies could improve dialogue and decision-making across sectors and knowledge systems.

To assess the workshop’s longer-term impact, follow-up interviews with participants will be conducted in the coming months. These will help identify specific use cases and insights regarding how Dynamic Facilitation contributes to research, policy work, and beyond.

An article explaining the methodology in more detail is available for download here.
