David Dunetz

David has worked for the past 25 years in the field of education, sustainability and the environment in Israel. Founding Director of the Green Schools Network, a national alliance of schools educating for sustainability, he received his Doctorate from Haifa University in 2011 and was acting Director of the Heschel Center (2014-2016) David helped catalyze the national multi-stakeholder process for decarbonization in Israel and was involved in creating the Civil Society Coalition for Agenda 2030 (SDGs) and the Just Transition Initiative for civil society organizations. In 2019, as visiting Fellow at RIFS in Potsdam Germany David while researching modes of public participation and democratic innovation, David had an epiphany regarding citizens’ assemblies. In 2021, he spearheaded Democracy 3.0- a civic initiative that looks to promote democratic renewal and sustainability at both local and regional levels across Israel. Democracy 3.0 ran the first citizen’s assembly in Israel in Kiryat Tivon, Northern Israel (2022) on zero waste and recently launched the first Lab for Local Authorities Citizens’ Assemblies.
