The University of Zurich, in partnership with the University of Canberra, invites PhD students to apply to the 2025 edition of the Swiss Summer School in Democracy Studies and the Deliberative Democracy Summer School. Taking place from 23–27 June 2025, this unique program brings together scholars from around the world to explore the evolving field of deliberative democracy—this year with a special focus on inequality.
The week-long program will feature keynote lectures, panels, and roundtables led by renowned scholars such as Cristina Lafont (Northwestern University), John Dryzek (University of Canberra), Thamy Pogrebinschi (WZB Berlin), and Jean Benoit Pilet (Université Libre de Bruxelles). Topics include inequalities in participation, perceptions of deliberation, regional disparities, and the potential of deliberative forums to address representation gaps.
Participants will engage in lectures, research presentations, and peer discussions, while also receiving feedback on their own work. Fee waivers are available for students without institutional funding.
