David Schecter has been working in the field of deliberative democracy since 2012. He and Lyn Carson led the founding of the Democracy R&D network in 2018, and he served as the network’s Coordinator from 2018 through 2023, expanding DRD’s membership from 20 organizations to more than 90 organizations and more than 90 individuals in 55 countries. He leads the institutionalization component of the network’s New Frontiers of Deliberative Democracy project, funded by the National Endowment for Democracy. His current focus areas are democracy redesign and deliberative democracy “field building” (increasing awareness, capacity, demand and funding).
