Mauricio Mejia leads the work on citizen participation and digital democracy in the Open Government Unit at the OECD. His work focuses on supporting countries in building better and more impactful ways to involve citizens, including through deliberative processes and the use of digital and emerging technologies. Mauricio also oversees the OECD work on digital democracy which includes research on civic technologies for democracy, the use of AI to empower citizens, and the digital civic space agenda. In the past years, he supported national reforms and local initiatives to strengthen the open government agenda in Latin America and the transition to an open state. Prior to joining the OECD, Mauricio worked at the French Parliament as chief of staff to MP Paula Forteza, at the French Prime Minister’s Taskforce for open data and open government (Etalab), and at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Mauricio holds a Masters’ degree on political science and international relations from Sciences Po Paris, where he now teaches the course “Re-imaging democracy and the digital public space”.
