He was born in Ankara. After his bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning at METU, he worked as an urban planner in both central and local government institutions. He continued his academic career with two master’s studies on the relationship between local politics and the city, one at The University of Kent in the UK, and then completed his doctoral thesis on the relationship between planning and politics in Ankara at METU Department of Political Science and Public Administration. She has worked in various positions in TMMOB Chamber of City Planners and non-governmental organisations. He has been working as a full-time academic since 2009 and is currently working at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Land Registry and Cadastre High School. His academic studies are spread over a wide range of fields such as urban planning, public policies, local governments, democratic participation and deliberation, conservation of historical sites. He has served as a jury member in international and national competitions in urban planning and urban design and has received various awards. He has managed and realised important examples of facilitation practices in the public sector in Turkey. He has taken part in and contributed to national and international public policy-making and planning processes. He has provided research, publication and voluntary consultancy services for the development of city councils in Turkey. He is a member of the German Network for Spatial Sciences (ARL) and the French Institute for Anatolian Studies (IFEA). He is also a member of reputable international networks in the field of democratic participation such as International Observatory for Participatory Democracy (IOPD), International Association of Facilitators (IAF), People Powered, Democracy R&D. Since 2019, he has been involved in the establishment process of Ankara City Council and is currently serving as its Deputy Chairman. For his outstanding efforts to improve democratic participation, he was awarded the Facilitation Impact Award by the International Association of Facilitators (IAF) in 2020 and the ‘European Innovation in Politics’ award in the field of democracy by the Institute for Innovation in Politics in 2024. He is interested in literature, cinema, classical Turkish music and comics. He has published and award-winning stories. He is married and has twin children.
