The European Commission’s Competence Centre on Participatory and Deliberative Democracy (CC-DEMOS) is launching a free, EU-wide training program on citizen participation, specifically designed for public officials. Running from March 26 to July 8, 2025, the first edition of the training will be hosted online via the EU Academy platform and is open to civil servants and public administration professionals working at local, regional, or national levels across the European Union.
Developed over the past two years, this comprehensive program is tailored to build capacity within public administrations to effectively design and implement participatory and deliberative processes. The training offers three levels of competence, ranging from foundational knowledge to advanced applications. One of the highlights is the “train-the-trainer” track, aimed at those who wish to guide and support others in organizing citizen engagement initiatives. This includes both professionals within public institutions and external practitioners with experience in democratic innovation.
By offering practical tools and strategic insight, the training supports a growing movement within European institutions to make governance more open, inclusive, and responsive to the needs and voices of citizens.
